Partial Solar Eclipse, 2016

We conducted an observation session of the sun on the day of partial solar eclipse. Participants were trained to make solar filter glasses on their own the day before which they used the next morning to view the eclipsed Sun. Many students can now make solar filter glasses themselves and can organize their own sun-observation sessions along with their friends. This indeed was a great achievement. Workshop on Amateur Tools in Astronomy

Workshop on Amateur Tools in Astronomy was a two-day training session for students organized by National Academy of Geo & Space Science and Public Youth Campus, Janakpur with the support of Government of Nepal, Ministry of Education. The workshop was organized at Educational Training Centre, Dhanusha and was focused on training the students on amateur tools used in astronomical studies. Notable presences were those of Mr. Chandra Prasad Luitel, Senior Instructor from Government of Nepal, Educational Training Centre – Dhanusha and Ms. Bonnie Thurber, General Assembly President, GHOU. Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP), Syangja

Global Hands On Universe – Galileo Teacher Training Program (GHOU-GTTP) 2016 was a two-day workshop organized jointly by National Academy of Geo & Space Science and Pokhara Astronomical Society in association with Global Hands On Universe and with the support of Government of Nepal, Ministry of Education. Unlike the previous GHOU-GTTP workshops which were usually participated by teachers from cities, it focused on training the teachers from rural areas of Nepal. Cosmic Light Workshops

We organized several Cosmic Light Workshops for students under the framework of International Year of Light initiated by International Astronomical Union (IAU). We would like to thank IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach for providing us with the Cosmic Light EDU Kit which was is a digital kit that assembled simple tools that allowed students and teachers to address and explore light and astronomy themes such as, the nature of light, the impact of light in our knowledge of the Universe and its importance for our existence. Sun Observation on Chhat 2015

National Academy of Geo & Space Science organized two different sun observation sessions in the cities of Janakpur and Kathmandu on the occasion of Chhat, in which the Hindus celebrate and worship the Sun in the form of Surya, the Sun God. Children and adults all gathered to view the Sun through reflective telescopes equipped with solar filters. They were amazed to see the Sun’s corona, which is its outermost layer and also captured some pictures of the Sun and sunspots through webcam photography. The Supermoon Showcase

‘The Supermoon Showcase 2015’ was a night time moon observation session organized by National Academy of Geo & Space Science in association with Public Youth Campus at Janakpur, Dhanusha on 9th August 2015. The program was dedicated for young schoolchildren from the local schools. Galileo Teacher Training Program, Pokhara was a two-day workshop for teachers organized by National Academy of Geo & Space Science in association with Global Hands On Universe along with local partners Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS) on 25th and 26th September, 2015 at Kumudini Homes Higher Secondary School, Pokhara, Kaski. Alike GHOU-GTTP Kathmandu, it turned out to be a fruitful event where the participant teachers learnt effective teaching methods on astronomy that can motivate the students through the means of practical classes and virtual planetariums and observatories. Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP), Kathmandu

Galileo Teacher Training Program, Kathmandu was a three day workshop for teachers in which the participants explored innovative ways to use space science and astronomy in the classroom to engage students in the sciences. Teachers were presented with a diverse workshop program consisting of practical sessions and inspiring lectures from experts. Realm of Photon

“Realm of Photon” was a two day workshop (July 15 – July 16, 2015) organized in the framework of International Year of Light. The workshop was aimed to school students of grades 8, 9 & 10 of Columbus International School, Kathmandu, Nepal. The event was announced by Cosmic Light EDUKit and was organized locally by NAGSS.
